Bone marrow aspirate processing

If HYLOFAST® is used in conjunction with bone marrow aspirate (concentrated or not), the following steps should be followed to obtain the bone marrow aspirate and to load it onto the HYLOFAST® scaffold:

01.

ASPIRATION OF BONE MARROW

The bone marrow aspiration can be performed from the posterior iliac crest during the same surgical session of HYLOFAST® implantation.

02.

OBTAINING BONE MARROW CONCENTRATES

In case of using bone marrow aspirate concentrated, the harvested bone marrow should be processed directly in the operating room by removing erythrocytes and plasma. For this purpose, a cell separator using a centrifuge and disposable double chamber devices, provides bone marrow concentrate containing nucleated cells.

03.

LOADING OF THE BONE MARROW ON HYALOFAST®

Two milliliters of bone marrow concentrate is suggested to be applied onto a 2×2 cm HYALOFAST® pad; the scaffold, due to its inherent hydrophilic properties, allows rapid homogeneous distribution of the concentrate fluid.
